Are you interested in learning more about publishing? The University Press of Kansas is looking for an intern to assist with acquisitions-related tasks. This internship will begin in the summer and continue into the fall 2024 semester. The intern will have the opportunity to learn about scholarly publishing and get hands-on experience in a relaxed but professional work environment.

Duties will include reviewing proposals, evaluating manuscripts, and responding to submissions; preparing projects for the Production Department and evaluating author-submitted art; identifying peer reviewers for submissions and preparing peer-review documents; and researching potential book ideas and authors. While this position is tied primarily to our Acquisitions Department, the internship also serves as an introduction to the world of scholarly publishing: the intern will attend in-house meetings and will meet with every department within the Press.

Internships are awarded on a competitive basis, and excellent communication, writing, organizational, and time-management skills are essential, as well as a strong interest in a career in publishing. This paid internship involves a minimum of 10 hours of work per week with a flexible schedule, and applicants must have been enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at KU during the spring 2024 semester or be pre-enrolled for the fall 2024 semester.
