The film No Place Like Home: The Struggle against Hate in Kansas will be shown at the joint conference of the Western History Association and Southern History Association in Kansas City. The hour-long documentary film, directed by Oscar winner Kevin Willmott and narrated by singer-songwriter Melissa Ethridge, is based on the book No Place Like Home: Lessons in Activism from LGBT Kansas by C. J. Janovy.
A roundtable discussion will follow the screening of the film. Participants will include Janovy; Willmott; Katherine Rose-Mockry, author of Liberating Lawrence: Gay Activism in the 1970s at the University of Kansas; Stuart Hinds, University of Missouri–Kansas City librarian and author of LGBTQ History in Kansas and Kansas City; and Kim Hogeland, acquisitions editor at Oregon State University Press.
The event will take place in the Atlanta Room on the Ballroom Level of the Sheraton Crown Center.
